ON SITE ACTIVITIES

BAKE OVENS

Let the scent of fresh, hot bread pulled straight from traditional wood fire bake ovens entice you to the Heritage Village. These traditional bake ovens or "peech" were found at the hearts of many Ukrainian homes.

Listen for announcements when the bread will be available hot out of the oven several times a day. The loaves are a delicious treat you won't want to miss!

FESTIVAL MARKETPLACE

Where else will you find merchants gathered from across the country to present a wide variety of Ukrainian products and services? Be sure to visit our Festival Marketplace throughout the site where our vendors will entice you with their wares, from T-shirts to embroidered blouses, traditional Ukrainian music to modern Ukrainian pop & rock CD's you will be sure to find the perfect souvenir!

 

CULTURAL DISPLAY AREA

These wonderful displays will include embroidery, woven tapestries, a tradtitional Easter supper display as well as a tradtional Christmas Eve supper display. See demonstrations of weaving, traditional pysanky (Ukrainian Easter Egg) decorating or wheat weaving .

CULINARY DEMONSTRATIONS

Let the magnificent aroma of traditional Ukrainian cuisine entice you inside the Pavilion. Stop and learn about the preparation of traditional breads like the kolach, Easter paska and wedding korovai. Discover culinary delights such as beet leaf buns, khrustyky and varenyky. Maybe you will experience good luck and get to sample a tasty treat!

UKRAINIAN RITUAL BREADS

Intricately braided, richly decorated, simply but lovingly made, a host of distinctive bread and pastries play an important role in the customs of the Ukrainian culture. Visit the Ritual Bread display in the Selo Hall for an in depth look at these beautiful breads!

PYSANKY DECORATING

.Adults and children are invited to learn the art of pysanky (Ukrainian Easter egg) decorating. Design your own very special souvenir!

UKRAINA POST OFFICE

Pick up a card and have it posted at the Ukraina Post Office. Mail posted here will bear a special Ukraina Cancellation Mark making this mail significant to people interested in stamp collecting, early Ukrainian history as well as the general public!

UKRAINIAN CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL PARK

The Ukrainian Centennial Memorial Park is the only park of its kind in Manitoba. It features plaques, memorials and statues to honour Ukrainian Canadian history and educates its visitors about the events that shaped the Ukrainian settlement of Canada.

HERITAGE VILLAGE

The name of the site where the Festival is held is Selo Ukraina which is derived from the Ukrainian language meaning "Ukrainian Village" The Heritage Village area is a collection of heritage structures and artifacts. Also located in the Heritage Village area will be the Bake Ovens, Cossack Camp and the Dauphin Agricultural Heritage Society display and demonstrations

DAUPHIN AG HERITAGE SOCIETY

Visit the Heritage Village and see displays of pioneer equipment and demonstrations of how things were done in the "Old Days". Demonstrations of the traditional methods of rope making, threshing and ice cream making will be showcased. Check in on the incubator and see a baby chick hatch!

Need some cash? Visit our volunteers in the Selo Hall to use our "Human" ATM!

Questions? Our enthusiastic volunteers would be delighted to answer your questions regarding any aspects of the Festival as well as the local area and attractions.

WHEELCHAIR/SCOOTER RENTALS

For your convenience Canada's National Ukrainian Festival and MediChair Dauphin offer complimentary wheelchair and scooter rentals.

SHUTTLE SERVICE-Cost $3.00

A shuttle service operates from the Selo site to the City of Dauphin and return for your convenience. There are various pick up and drop off locations through out the City.

OFF SITE ACTIVITIES

PARADE-Downtown Dauphin

The Annual Festival Parade begins at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 31. Led by Canada's National Riding & Dancing Cossacks & Company the parade provides over an hour of entertainment consisting of colourful floats, horse drawn wagons & riders, Ukrainian dancers, great bands and much more.

DAUPHIN & DISTRICT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE STREET FAIR

On Thursday, July 29 visit downtown Dauphin and enjoy a multitude of activities at the Street Fair, Delight in lively entertainment, merchant displays, children's activities and choose from a variety of delicious foods. The highlight of the day is the evening Street Dance!

PRESERVATION COMMITTEE FOR THE HISTORIC CHURCH OF THE RESURRECTION

This historic church is a magnificent landmark gracing the City of Dauphin. Designed by Reverend Philip Ruh the structure is one of the two last remaining "Prairie Cathedrals" left in Manitoba. A fundraising concert will be held on Thursday, July 29 at 7:00 pm at the historic church on 11th Avenue SW!

TREMBOWLA CROSS OF FREEDOM

The Cross of Freedom commemorates the site of the first Ukrainian Catholic Divine Liturgy celebrated on Canadian soil and is where a Moleben Service is held annually the Sunday of the Festival. Join the cultural and historical celebrations at 12:30 pm.
